In September of 2007, Dr. Carol Henderson-Belton joined the Black American Studies Program as Associate Director. Dr. Henderson-Belton is an Associate Professor in the University’s Department of English and also serves as an affiliate faculty member to Women’s Studies. She is the author of Scarring the Black Body: Race and Representation in African American Literature (University of Missouri Press, 2002) and has won numerous awards including the "Richard "Dick" Wilson Community Award from the Center for Black Culture (2002) and the "Excellence in Teaching" Award in 1996.
