The Black American Studies program provides a variety of educational and cultural programs throughout the year, among which are monthly Brown Bag presentations by BAMS and other university faculty at a noon lecture open to the university community. See the BAMS Brown Bag page to learn more about the lectures that have been given and are scheduled for this semester; an annual BAMS Distinguished Public Lecture by a noted scholar of African American life; and the Paul R. Jones Collection Educational Initiative. The Initiative is housed in the office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and consists of a coordinated program of educational, collaborative and scholarly activities designed to enhance the appreciation, value and usefulness of the Paul R. Jones African American Art Collection. Consistent with our emphasis on scholarly work on African American and African Diasporic life, we provide a sampling of the works of BAMS faculty as well as a current working papers that describe work in progress and developing ideas.
